Brit Drivers Want their Sat-Nav to Speak with a Geordie Accent

Nearly half of all British drivers would love to be driven round the bend by a sat nav with a Geordie accent according to The Co-operative Insurance.

The survey by the leading motor insurer asked more than 2,000 motorists from across the UK which accent they would most like to hear giving them directions. Northern accents came top of the pile beating the dulcet southern tones, with three of the top five accents coming from Bolton and Yorkshire.

NuWire Investor Ranks Top 10 Growing U.S. Markets

NuWire Investor, an online financial news publication, recently published its rankings of the Top 10 Growing U.S. Markets. In its analysis, NuWire considered a combination of data from the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The 10 markets were selected based on U.S. Census Bureau data showing the percentage of population growth from 2000 to 2006 for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) of at least one million residents.

Store Card Debt Contributing To Serious Debt Problems, Say Debt Counsellors

The Debt Counsellors Annual UK Debt Survey has revealed that store card debt is a major contributory factor towards serious debt problems in the UK.

According to the survey, more than 41% of people seeking help for their debt problems owe money on store 111C cards. Credit cards were the largest contributor, with credit card debt stipulated as a factor in 91% of cases.

Doe Run Peru Reports Drop in Emissions, Blood Lead Levels

Emissions from Doe Run Perus La Oroya facility and blood lead levels among workers and in the community have improved significantly, the company reported Wednesday.

When we bought the lead smelter in 1997 we committed to working to address the 75 years of health and environmental issues left by the previous owners," said Doe Run Peru President Bruce Neil. The work we have been doing over the last seven years in partnership with the community has resulted in real progress."

Blood lead levels among workers are now down 31 percent from where they were when Doe Run Peru bought its metallurgical complex from the Peruvian government in 1997, Neil said, adding that reduced lead exposure at the plant translates to reduced lead exposure for the workers children as their parents are no longer bringing home lead dust on their clothing....
